The story of the CENTURY company began in 1902.
At that time, Conrad Habicht, the great uncle of
Hans-Ulrich Klingenberg, founder of CENTURY, was working closely with Albert Einstein as part of the Olympia Academy in Bern. This informal group met regularly to explore scientific and philosophical ideas. Einstein later acknowledged that these discussions had a significant influence on his scientific development. This intellectual environment, along with his family connection, deeply shaped Klingenberg’s values of innovation, precision, and a thoughtful approach to time. Principles that became the foundation of CENTURY.
Years later, in 1922, Einstein offered a glimpse into his personal philosophy while traveling in Japan. Unable to give a tip to a hotel bellboy, he handed him a handwritten note instead. On it, he had written what he called the secret to happiness: “A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness.” This simple message reflected a belief in finding meaning not in constant striving, but in presence and appreciation of life’s quieter moments.
At CENTURY, this perspective continues to inspire us. Light, the fastest phenomenon in the universe, reminds us that each fleeting moment is unique.
Our watches are crafted to help you capture and appreciate the moments that matter. Every CENTURY timepiece is a reflection on time itself. It is a constant reminder to embrace every moment.
